No possibility of recession
New Delhi. During the current week, prices of fenugreek rose by Rs 100/200 per quintal. And the market sentiment is still strong because apart from the increase in local demand, there are reports of increase in demand from exporters as well. Experts say that there is no possibility of recession in the current prices of fenugreek in the near future. In the coming days, prices are expected to increase by Rs 400/500 per quintal. Currently, the price of average quality fenugreek is being quoted at Rs 4800/5200 per quintal in the markets of producing centers.
Despite less sowing at producing centers during the current season, fenugreek production was higher than last year. Because after sowing, the weather remained favorable for the crop, due to which an increase in production was recorded per hectare. According to an estimate, the production of fenugreek in the country during the current season is estimated to be 18/19 lakh quintals, whereas last year, the production was 17/18 lakh quintals. Fenugreek is mainly produced in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Total availability low
Although the production of fenugreek has increased in the country during the current season, the total availability was low due to low outstanding stock. According to the information received, last year at the time of arrival of new crop, the stock of fenugreek was more than 4 lakh quintals, which was estimated to be 1.50/1.75 lakh quintals this year.
Incoming
Recently, with the increase of 100/200 in the prices of fenugreek, the daily arrival of fenugreek in the markets has started increasing. In Madhya Pradesh's main mandi Neemuch, the arrival has increased to 250/280 bags which was 1200/1500 bags at the end of June. In Mandsaur mandi also, the arrival is 900/1000 bags which was 400/500 bags earlier. In Gujarat's Rajkot mandi also, the arrival has started to be 700/750 bags which was 400/500 bags last week.
No recession
Informed sources say that there is no possibility of recession in the prices of fenugreek in the near future. Prices will gradually increase in the coming days. It is worth mentioning that in the past days, due to less export and local trade, prices were slow and prices had come down to their minimum level. Currently, apart from increase in exporters' inquiries, improvement is also being recorded in local demand. Due to rainy season, local demand is expected to remain good. Due to which a rise of 400/500 rupees per quintal in prices is possible in the months of July and August.
I Grain India had also written in its June 27 issue that the prices of fenugreek are no longer sluggish, the prices will continue to rise gradually.
Record export
Record export of fenugreek was done during the year 2024-25 (April-March). Whereas during the year 2024-25, fenugreek has been exported for 44515.97 tonnes. This export is 44 percent more than last year. During the year 2023-24, the export was 30854 tonnes. Due to higher exports, a spectacular increase of 37 percent was also registered in export income. According to the information received, an income of Rs 36589 lakh was generated from fenugreek export during the year 2024-25. Whereas in the year 2023-24, the income obtained from export was Rs 26612.76 lakh.
