Indefinite strike of major ports and dock workers postponed

New Delhi. In an important meeting between the Chairman of BWNC and MD of IPA with six federations of port and dock workers of major Indian ports, a mutual agreement was reached and after this the federations postponed their indefinite strike prevalent from 28 August 2024.
Both the parties agreed on many other issues including amendment in the remuneration structure and comprehensive improvement in other service conditions.
It is known that the Managing Director of Indian Port Association (IPA) had invited these federations to participate in a meeting of BWNC to be held on 27 and 28 August 2024.
In that meeting, long talks took place between the two sides and then consensus was reached on various issues.
This also includes the matter of pension, wages and service conditions. It has been decided to make this agreement effective for five years and a formula will be prepared for the pay scale which will be applicable from 1 January 2022.
The period of the next pay revision will start from 1 January 2027 and it will be carried forward in such a way that no discrepancy arises in future.
It was also decided in the meeting that the employees working during the operational period of the agreement from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2026 will be given a special allowance of Rs 500 per month.
The management has assured that the process of BWNC will be completed within 15 days of the agreement and after that it will be made effective.
The six federations expressed happiness over the timely intervention of the Shipping Minister in this matter and thanked him. The threat of strike by port and dock workers at major ports has now been averted.
