Yangon: Heavy exports of pulses such as urad, tur (pigeon pea), and moong from India’s northeastern neighbour Myanmar to various countries of the world continued in December as well. The largest share of Myanmar’s exports of tur and urad goes to India, while moong shipments are mainly destined for Vietnam and China, as imports of moong are restricted in India.
According to the latest monthly data released by Myanmar’s leading exporters’ body, the Overseas Agro Traders Association (OATA), the country exported 46,065 tonnes of urad, 19,560 tonnes of tur, and 14,237 tonnes of moong during December 2025. Of the total urad exports during the month, 33,585 tonnes were shipped to India, 4,925 tonnes to Vietnam, and 1,975 tonnes to Nepal, with the remaining quantity exported to other countries. Similarly, Myanmar exported 19,300 tonnes of tur to India in December 2025, while shipments to other countries were limited to just 260 tonnes. Moong exports during the month included 7,300 tonnes to Vietnam, 2,795 tonnes to China, and 1,585 tonnes to Indonesia, while the remaining 2,557 tonnes were shipped to other destinations.
Association data indicate that Myanmar’s urad export performance in December was relatively weak. Urad shipments from Myanmar stood at 66,047 tonnes in November 2025 and 55,444 tonnes in December 2024, but declined to 46,065 tonnes in December 2025. On the other hand, tur exports increased from 11,979 tonnes in December 2024 to 19,560 tonnes in December 2025, although this figure was nearly 50 percent lower than the total shipments of 38,175 tonnes recorded in November 2025.
Despite the arrival of new crop supplies, exports of urad, tur, and moong from Myanmar are expected to pick up pace in the coming months. India has already allowed duty-free and restriction-free imports of urad and tur until March 2026.
