India May Export 6-7 Lakh Tonnes of Sugar by End of 2024-25 Season: ISMA
★ India is likely to export around 6 to 7 lakh metric tonnes of sugar by the end of the current season (October 2024 to September 2025), even though the government had allowed exports of up to 1 million tonnes in January.
★ The pace of exports has slowed due to a decline in sugar production and rising domestic prices. Indian sugar mills are demanding higher prices, making them less competitive in the global market. As a result, international buyers are opting for alternative suppliers like Brazil.
★ Despite the drop in production this season, India has adequate opening stocks, which are sufficient to meet domestic demand.
