India's Pulse Imports Surge in 2024: Total Imports Expected to Double.
★ According to data, India’s pulse imports for 2024 are expected to see a sharp rise, nearly doubling compared to the previous year.
★ The total imports for January–December 2024 are projected to reach 6.633, a significant increase from 3.307 million tons in 2023.
Detailed Observations:
★ Desi Chana: Imports are anticipated to rise by 0.44 to reach 0.57 mmt (last year 0.131)
★ Urad: A moderate increase of 0.167 is expected to reach 0.765 mmt (last Year 0.598)
★ Lentil: Imports are set to decrease by 0.588, marking a notable decline. Expected imports in 2024 is 1.093 which was 1.681 mmt in 2023.
★ Tuar: An increase of 0.34 is projected in 2024 to reach 1.233 mmt (last year 0.887)
★ Yellow Pea: The most significant jump, with imports surging by 2.96 million tons in 2024. In 2023 year 0.01 mmt was imported as import was allowed from December 2023.
★ This sharp increase in imports highlights India's growing reliance on external sources to meet domestic demand for pulses.
