India’s Rice Exports See Sharp Decline: April–May 2025
★ Rice exports from India dropped by 60% in April and May 2025.
★ Importing countries had purchased large volumes in late 2024 and early 2025, leading to subdued current demand.

Parboiled Rice Exports:
* September 2024: 4.35 lakh tonnes
* October to January: 10–12.5 lakh tonnes per month
* April 2025: 7.92 lakh tonnes
* May 2025: 2.07 lakh tonnes

White Rice Exports:
★ October 2024: 6.91 lakh tonnes (up from just 30,000 tonnes in September)
★ November 2024: 8.07 lakh tonnes
★ January 2025: 5.22 lakh tonnes
★ April–May 2025: 3.04 and 2.92 lakh tonnes respectively

Price Decline:
★ India’s 5% broken white rice is now at $384/ton FOB – lowest in 5 years
★ Parboiled rice quoted at $377/ton FOB
★ FOB prices have fallen 20% since February 2025
★ Overall price drop since export restrictions lifted is around 40%

Government Stocks and Market Signal:
★ FCI started offering rice to states and ethanol producers at Rs. 22.50/kg, signaling surplus stocks to the global market

As of June 1, 2025, FCI holds:
★ 37.99 million tonnes of rice and 32.26 million tonnes of unmilled paddy (equal to 21.61 million tonnes of rice)
