Indonesia Tops Edible Oil Supply to India

Mumbai. India imports palm oil from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, soybean oil from Argentina, Brazil and Russia and sunflower oil from Russia, Ukraine and Argentina. Indonesia remains at the first position in terms of supplying edible oils to India.
During the first nine months of the current marketing season i.e. from November 2024 to July 2025, about 107.57 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported in India, which includes import of more than 25.88 lakh tonnes from Indonesia alone.
Argentina reached the second position, leaving Malaysia far behind. 24.07 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from there. 17.67 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from Malaysia and 12.82 lakh tonnes from Russia and it remained the third and fourth most important supplier country respectively.
Brazil remained at fifth and Ukraine at sixth position from where 8.20 lakh tonnes and 5.36 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported.
Apart from this, about 7.92 lakh tonnes of edible oil was imported from other countries of the world. According to the data of Solvent Extractors Association of India (SIA), during November 2024 to July 2025, 9.88 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 41.10 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO), 44 thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil, 35.23 lakh tonnes of crude degummed soybean oil and 20.93 lakh tonnes of crude sunflower oil were imported in India.
During this period, 8.22 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 17.65 lakh tonnes of CPO and one thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil were imported from Indonesia.
Similarly, 1.30 lakh tonne RBD palmolein, 16.02 lakh tonne CPO and 35 thousand tonne crude palm kernel oil were imported from Malaysia and 23 thousand tonne refined palmolein, 5.31 lakh tonne CPO and 4 thousand tonne crude palm kernel oil were imported from Thailand.
During this period 21.20 lakh tonne soya oil and 2.87 lakh tonne sunflower oil were imported from Argentina whereas 10.93 lakh tonne sunflower oil and 1.88 lakh tonne soybean oil were imported from Russia. 8.03 lakh tonne soybean oil was imported from Brazil and 5.20 lakh tonne sunflower oil was imported from Ukraine.
