International Corn Market
USDA reported a private export sale of 110,000 metric tons of corn to unknown destinations this morning, all for new crop delivery.
According to the weekly Export Sales data for the week ending July 3, old crop corn sales totaled 1.262 million metric tons, significantly above the estimated range of 375,000 to 900,000 MT. This was the highest in eight weeks and more than double the same week last year and the previous week. Mexico was the top buyer at 469,900 MT, followed by Japan with 436,200 MT.
New crop sales also exceeded the expected range of 150,000 to 700,000 MT at 888,562 MT. Though lower than the previous week, it was still the second largest weekly total of the marketing year. Mexico again led purchases with 423,900 MT, while Japan bought 304,800 MT.
In its monthly report, CONAB estimated Brazil’s corn crop at 131.97 million metric tons, up by 3.72 MMT from the previous month, primarily due to a 3.54 MMT increase in second crop corn. Ahead of Friday’s USDA report, a Bloomberg survey of traders estimated Brazil’s corn production at 132.3 MMT.
