USDA this morning reported private export sales of 119,769 metric tons of corn to Costa Rica and 140,452 metric tons to Spain for the 2025/26 crop year.
This week’s crop tour showed yields in most states better than last year. ProFarmer pegged the 2025 national yield at 182.7 bushels per acre, with total production at 16.204 billion bushels. That is lower than USDA’s August Crop Production report at 188.8 bpa and 16.742 bbu.
CFTC data showed that as of August 19, speculators cut 31,464 contracts from their net short position in corn futures and options, reducing it to 144,650 contracts. Commercials, meanwhile, added 25,041 contracts to their net short, taking it to 57,745 contracts as of Tuesday.
Export Sales data showed old crop U.S. corn export commitments at 70.505 MMT, which is 98% of the USDA estimate, lagging the 103% average pace. New crop sales have reached 16.69 MMT, double the same week last year and just 2 MMT short of the 2021/22 record buying pace for new crop.
