Speculative Activity
Speculative Funds: Increased their net long positions in corn futures and options by 77,670 contracts, bringing their total to 165,890 contracts as of December 10—the highest in 22 months.
Commercials: Added 82,715 contracts to their net short positions, now totaling 386,100 contracts.
U.S. Export Performance
Corn Shipments: Reached 12.567 million metric tons (MMT), a 31% increase from the previous year and ahead of the average pace. This represents 20% of the USDA's export projection (compared to a 17% average).
Total Commitments (including unshipped sales): Stand at 35.138 MMT, 29% higher than last year and 56% of the USDA projection (above the 53% average).
Argentina's Planting Progress
The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange reports that 55.6% of the corn crop has been planted, exceeding the usual pace for this time of year.
