The USDA reported a private export sale of 235,000 metric tons of corn to Mexico this morning. Of that, 130,000 metric tons are scheduled for delivery in 2024/25 and 105,000 metric tons for 2025/26.
According to CFTC Commitment of Traders data, speculative funds reduced their net long position by 11,768 contracts during the week ending April 22. By Tuesday, the total net long position stood at 112,805 contracts.
Reports suggest that Japan is considering increasing imports of U.S. corn as part of certain trade negotiations. Typically, 60–70% of their corn imports come from the U.S. So far this year, Japan is the second-largest buyer of U.S. corn, having imported 10.09 million metric tons (MMT).
According to export sales data, total corn commitments have reached 57.734 MMT, which is 26% higher than the same time last year. This represents 89% of USDA’s estimate, while the average pace for this time of year is 92%.
