International Corn Market
According to the Weekly Export Inspections data, corn shipments for the week ending April 24 totaled 1.654 million metric tons (65.14 million bushels). This was down 4.16% from the previous week but 27.44% higher than the same week last year. Mexico was the largest destination with 533,791 MT, followed by Japan with 376,788 MT, and Colombia with just 211,129 MT. So far in the marketing year, corn shipments have reached 40.90 million metric tons (1.609 billion bushels), up 28.98% from the same period last year.
According to this afternoon’s Crop Progress report, 24% of the U.S. corn crop had been planted as of April 27, ahead of the 5-year average of 22% for that date. Emergence was reported at 5%, one percentage point above the normal average.
