International Cotton Market
ICE cotton futures ended Thursday’s session with losses of 5 to 11 points. Crude oil fell by $1.51 to $66.86 per barrel, while the US dollar index rose by $0.51 to 97.250.
According to USDA Export Sales data for the week ending July 3, old crop cotton bookings totaled 75,089 running bales (RB), including 33,600 RB sold to Vietnam. New crop bookings were 81,543 RB, with Bangladesh as the top buyer at 23,100 RB and Vietnam at 19,900 RB. Total sales reached 156,632 RB, a 3-week high.
Shipments for the week totaled 240,899 RB, down from the previous week but still 49.9% higher than the same period last year. Vietnam received 95,900 RB, while Turkey received 46,400 RB.
Wednesday’s online auction from The Seam reported 274 bales sold at an average price of 54 cents per pound. The Cotlook A Index fell by 60 points on July 9 to 78.15. ICE certified cotton stocks declined by 2,642 bales on July 9 through decertification, leaving total certified stocks at 35,347 bales.
USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) was lowered by 63 points on Thursday to 54.71 cents/lb. It is expected to be updated later today.
