ICE cotton futures closed Friday’s session down 7 to 18 points, though the December contract still managed a 94-point weekly gain from early-week strength. The U.S. dollar index fell another \$0.383 to \$97.720, while crude oil futures were down \$0.78.
CFTC data indicated that as of August 12, managed money added 1,931 contracts to their net short position, taking it to 57,083 contracts.
USDA’s Export Sales data showed new crop bookings at 3.127 million running bales, which is 28% of the full-year USDA export forecast but behind the 45% average pace.
The Seam reported 2,019 bales sold in Thursday’s online auction at an average price of 68.32 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index fell 55 points to 79.40 cents on August 14. ICE cotton stocks fell by 1,225 bales on August 13 via decertifications, leaving certified stocks at 17,017 bales. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) was up 66 points on Thursday at 55.05 cents/lb.
