ICE cotton futures came under pressure on Monday, closing 75 to 90 points lower. The US dollar index fell by $0.199 on the day to $97.625. Losses of $2.55 in the crude oil market, on the back of a potential Israel/Hamas ceasefire, added further pressure.
NASS Crop Progress report showed 67% of the US cotton crop with bolls open, behind the 69% average. Harvest was at 16%, matching the average pace. Cotton condition ratings were unchanged at 47% good to excellent, while the Brugler500 index improved 2 points to 335.
Friday’s online auction from The Seam reported 1,187 bales sold at an average price of 62.46 cents/lb. The Cotlook A Index was steady at 77.70 cents on September 26. ICE certified cotton stocks were unchanged at 15,474 bales as of September 26. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) fell 41 points last week to 54.38 cents/lb.
