Friday afternoon’s Commitment of Traders report indicated that as of August 12, soybean futures and options net short positions were reduced by 30,660 contracts, bringing the total down to 35,270 contracts net short.
Export Sales data showed full-year commitments at 51.115 MMT, matching USDA’s estimate but behind the average sales pace of 103%. New crop sales are currently at 4.712 MMT, down 19.7% from last year and the lowest since 2019/20, as Chinese buying has remained quiet.
According to NOPA’s crush report, members crushed a record 195.7 million bushels of soybeans in July. That was a 7.01% increase from last year, above expectations, and the highest since January. Soybean oil stocks were reported at 1.378 billion lbs, up 0.8% from June but 14.68% below last year.
