Kochi. If everything goes according to plan, traders from some other important producing and exporting countries of the world including India will also be able to buy and sell pepper directly through an online app based e-commerce platform.
This app has been developed by the Indian Pepper and Spice Trade Association (IPSTA) headquartered in Kochi.
The next session of the International Pepper Community (IPC) is going to be held in Sri Lanka in November.
A delegation of IPC has just visited India to discuss the same. IPC is actually an inter-governmental organization of pepper producing countries and India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam are its permanent members while Papua New Guinea and Philippines are associate members.
Apart from this, some other countries including Thailand, China and Brazil also produce pepper in good quantity.
During the interaction with IPSTa officials, the IPC delegation expressed keen interest in developing a similar app in its member countries so that traders and producers there can also get the facility of buying and selling pepper through online platform.
According to an official, the IPC delegation has told IPSTA that when the IPC meeting will be held in Sri Lanka in November 2024, it will showcase this app and then every country will have its own app. In future,
it can be linked with all the countries. IPSTa had started online trading in pepper through this app from May 2024 and now it is working successfully.
