Lentil (Masoor): Prices Remained in a Narrow Range in 2025
★ During 2025, prices in the domestic lentil (masoor) markets witnessed limited fluctuations, with no major volatility recorded. Prices started the year on a relatively firm note in January; however, during February–March, normal arrivals put mild pressure on the market. In April–May, prices remained stable as supply and demand stayed balanced.
★ During June–July, improvement in domestic demand supported prices in some markets. However, better offtake at select centers during August–September led to some firmness in prices. From October to December, the market closed on a stable to firm trend.
In Mumbai Canada container, prices traded in the range of ₹5,800–6,400, with an average of ₹6,154, while Mumbai Australia container prices ranged between ₹5,850 and ₹6,400, averaging ₹6,171. In Delhi desi large masoor, the yearly high was ₹7,150 and the low ₹6,375, with an average of ₹6,696. In Katni, prices moved between ₹6,300 and ₹7,000, averaging ₹6,619.
★ Among other major centers, Bareilly large masoor traded between ₹6,400 and ₹9,800, with an average of ₹7,631, while in Barh market prices ranged from ₹6,300 to ₹8,000, averaging ₹6,931.
★ Internationally, prices also remained within a limited range. CNF prices of lentils imported from Canada ranged between $495 and $665 per tonne during the year, with an average of $587. Meanwhile, Australia (Kolkata) CNF prices traded in the range of $520–700 per tonne, averaging $607.
★ Overall, prices remained under control throughout the year due to normal demand and adequate supply.

Outlook for 2026
★ Due to large imports in the previous year, availability remained comfortable; however, a decline in imports has been observed in the current year. Considering the present sowing progress and weather conditions, lentil production is likely to be marginally higher than last year.
★ Large stocks of lentils are available in overseas markets. With expectations of higher production and elevated global stocks, international prices may remain under pressure, which could also have an impact on Indian markets.
★ Under these circumstances, the lentil market is expected to trade within a limited range in the coming period.
