Lentil (Masur) Price Trend Report
★ Over the past five years, the lentil market has witnessed several ups and downs, but overall the trend has remained firm. In key mandis such as Mumbai, Delhi, Katni, Bareilly, Sagar, and Barh, demand and supply have largely remained balanced.
★ In 2020, prices were around ₹4,900–₹5,200 per quintal.
★ In 2021, rising demand and limited supply pushed prices higher, reaching ₹7,500–₹7,800 per quintal.
★ In early 2022, prices stayed at record levels, crossing above ₹7,800 per quintal in several markets.
★ Later, with higher production and imports improving supply, prices declined and by 2023 settled in the range of ₹5,500–₹6,000 per quintal.
★ In 2024, the market gradually stabilized and prices hovered around ₹6,000–₹6,400 per quintal. This recovery was supported by domestic consumption and trade demand.
★ In 2025, lentil prices have been on a steady upward trend.
★ By August 2025, rates climbed to around ₹6,200–₹6,600 per quintal.
★ Festive demand and limited imports are currently supporting the market.
★ In the coming months, festive season demand and restricted imports are expected to keep prices strong. While some correction due to profit-booking may bring stability, the overall trend remains positive and firm.
★ New crops from Canada and Australia will start arriving from October, by which time both domestic and imported stocks will have been consumed. This is likely to provide additional support to prices.
★ Until large-scale imports begin, prices are expected to remain on the firmer side.
