Maharashtra’s Monthly Sugar Sales Quota Reduced for March, Karnataka’s Increased
★ The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution increased the monthly sugar sales quota for March by 16% for Karnataka to 3.83 lakh tonnes, and by 7% for Uttar Pradesh to 7.55 lakh tonnes. On the other hand, Maharashtra’s monthly quota was reduced by 13% to 8.13 lakh tonnes.
★ The total monthly sugar sales quota for March 2026 has been fixed at 22.5 lakh tonnes, almost similar to February 2026 but 2.2% lower than March 2025.
★ Higher quotas were expected due to increased sugar consumption during the upcoming Holi and Eid festivals and the summer season demand from cold drinks and ice cream.
★ Most of the Holi-related demand has already been covered. A marginal increase in sugar prices is expected.
