Malaysia Retains 10% Export Duty on CPO

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian government has announced that it will maintain the export duty on crude palm oil (CPO) at the high level of 10% for July 2026—consistent with June—based on its reference price.
Although the reference price for CPO has been assessed slightly lower at 4,346.79 ringgit per tonne compared to the previous month's 4,372.64 ringgit per tonne, it remains above the 4,050 ringgit per tonne threshold required to trigger the 10% export duty. The export duty will not be reduced until the reference price of palm oil falls below 4,050 ringgit per tonne.
It is noteworthy that a specific formula for levying export duty on crude palm oil in Malaysia has been in effect since November 1, 2024. Under this formula, no export duty is charged if the CPO reference price remains below 2,250 ringgit per tonne.
However, a 3% duty applies to reference prices between 2,250 and 2,400 ringgit per tonne, and the duty rate rises progressively as the reference price increases. A 10% duty applies to prices exceeding 4,050 ringgit per tonne.
