Thiruvananthapuram. With the strengthening and re-activation of the southwest monsoon, the chances of good rains in various parts of the country have increased.
Till now, this monsoon was active only in the southern peninsula, Maharashtra and Goa, and in the northeastern states, but now it is moving beyond the borders of Maharashtra and entering Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
Experts from the Meteorological Department say that by the end of the current month, the monsoon will reach most parts of the country.
According to experts, if the monsoon had not stalled after 29 May and continued till 15 June, it would have already reached many states in the northern and central regions.
During the first fortnight of June, the country recorded 31 percent less rainfall, but heavy rains are expected in the second half of the month, which may compensate for the earlier shortfall.
The monsoon’s progress is expected to be rapid in the coming days. Favorable weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal are likely to provide strength and support to the monsoon system. This can lead to widespread heavy rainfall, which is urgently needed.
Due to the lack of monsoon rains, sowing of Kharif crops has not started in many regions of the country, and the Central Agriculture Ministry has not yet released weekly sowing data.
However, agriculture departments of states like Gujarat, Karnataka, and Maharashtra have started publishing their own data.
It is believed that during the first two weeks of July, very heavy rainfall may occur in many parts of the country, potentially causing flood situations in some areas.
This development will help Indian farmers in cultivating major Kharif crops such as paddy, maize, pulses, soybean, groundnut, cotton, and sugarcane.
The maximum rainfall in the country typically occurs during July and August. Above-normal rainfall is also expected during the second half of June.
