New Delhi. Usually the southwest monsoon reaches the entire country by July 8, but this year it was successful in covering the entire India 6 days earlier i.e. from July 2. This is helping in increasing the pace of sowing of Kharif crops.
But the performance of monsoon was weak in June as it became inactive for many days. Its activity is expected to increase in July. This will provide relief to farmers and agriculture sector.
A statement issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the southwest monsoon advanced further on July 2 and reached the remaining parts of Rajasthan,
Haryana and Punjab. In this way, it covered the entire country on July 2 instead of July 8. According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon reached Kerala and the Northeast region on May 30 this year,
which was two days before the scheduled date of June 1. It progressed normally and reached Maharashtra but after that it stopped and farmers in states like West Bengal,
Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh had to wait for rain. On the other hand, the northwestern states of the country were hit by severe heat with very high temperatures. Now the monsoon can progress normally.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon remained sluggish and weak for 16 days between 11 and 27 June,
due to which only 147.2 mm of rain could occur at the national level during the entire month, which was 11 percent less than the normal average level of 165.3 mm. During the four-month period of the southwest monsoon season,
the average level of total rainfall in the country is 87 cm, in which the share of June rain is around 15 percent. The maximum rainfall occurs in the month of July,
while August is in second place. It is expected that in these two months, there can be very good rain in almost all parts of the country.
