New Delhi. After remaining calm and inactive for more than two weeks, the southwest monsoon has now reactivated, leading to expectations of good rainfall in different parts of the country in the coming days.
This will likely bring relief from intense heat and high temperatures. According to weather officials, the monsoon is set to advance further and reach the central part of India during the current week. Rainfall and a drop in temperature are also expected in major agricultural states of northern India.
For India, with an economy worth nearly $4 trillion, the southwest monsoon plays a vital role in supporting the agricultural sector.
Nearly 70 percent of the country’s annual rainfall occurs during the four-month monsoon season from June to September. Over half of Indian agriculture depends on this rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that favorable weather developments over the Bay of Bengal have boosted the strength, intensity, and movement of the monsoon.
This will help it cover most of central India within the current week. On June 16, the monsoon became active with significant rainfall across Maharashtra and entered the neighboring state of Gujarat.
It has also become active in Madhya Pradesh. With the monsoon gaining momentum, several states have started receiving consistent rainfall.
This active trend is expected to continue, benefiting farmers in the sowing of Kharif crops. The IMD has forecast that the monsoon has now reached its expected strength,
and normal to heavy rainfall is likely in parts of the western coast, central India, and northern India over the next 10 days. This will help bring down temperatures and accelerate Kharif sowing activity.
