Yangon. The heavy export of pulses such as urad, tur, and moong from Myanmar, India's northeastern neighbor, to various countries around the world continued in December. The largest exports of tur and urad from Myanmar are to India, while moong is shipped to Vietnam and China because its import is restricted in India.
According to the latest monthly figures from the Overseas Agri Traders Association (OATA), a leading exporter organization in Myanmar, 46,065 tons of urad, 19,560 tons of tur, and 14,237 tons of moong were exported from the country during December 2025. During the month under review, 33,585 tons of urad were exported to India, 4,925 tons to Vietnam, and 1,975 tons to Nepal,
while the remaining quantity was sent to other countries. Similarly, in December 2025, 19,300 tons of tur were exported from Myanmar to India, while only 260 tons were shipped to other countries. Moong exports included 7,300 tons to Vietnam, 2,795 tons to China, and 1,585 tons to Indonesia, while the remaining 2,557 tons of moong were shipped to other countries.
The association's figures show that the export performance of urad from Myanmar in December was quite weak. Myanmar had shipped 66,047 tons of urad in November 2025 and 55,444 tons in December 2024, which decreased to 46,065 tons in December 2025.
On the other hand, pigeon pea exports increased from 11,979 tonnes in December 2024 to 19,560 tonnes in December 2025, but this was approximately 50 percent less than the total shipments of 38,175 tonnes in November 2025.
Despite the arrival of new crops, the pace of export shipments of urad, pigeon peas, and mung beans from Myanmar is expected to accelerate in the coming months. Duty-free and export-free import of urad and pigeon peas into India has already been approved until March 2026.
