New Delhi. The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), an agency under the Union Ministry of Agriculture, is primarily responsible for procuring pulses, oilseeds, and copra from farmers.

The federation has now decided to launch its own e-auction portal for the purchase and sale of these products on January 19, 2026.

It is noteworthy that until now, this central agency had to use private platforms to sell its stock. Under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) schemes, the agency annually procures approximately 53 lakh tonnes of pulses and oilseeds from farmers, which it then sells through private platforms.

However, once its own portal is launched, the need for private platforms will be eliminated. Another central agency, the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation (NCCF), also has to sell its products through these private platforms.

NAFED's portal, Nafex.in, has been developed in collaboration with a reputable consulting firm, Deloitte. Initially, it will be used by NAFED itself, and later, consideration may be given to allowing state-level cooperative federations and agencies to also conduct e-auctions of their products on this portal. Currently,

private agencies charge buyers a fee of 0.03 percent of the total value of the products traded for using their portals, while NAFED's portal may be free of charge. This will provide relief to buyers and help NAFED increase its sales.
