News Capsule: 29% of U.S. Pea Crop in Poor Condition
★ According to state-level data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the condition of this year's pea crop remains a concern.
★ Based on data from major producing states Montana and North Dakota, only 37% of the crop is rated in good to excellent condition, down sharply from 51% the previous week.
★ About 34% of the crop is rated fair, while 29% is classified as poor or very poor.
★ In Montana, 42% of pea fields are rated poor to very poor, 12% fair, and 46% good.
★ Conditions are relatively better in North Dakota, where 21% of the crop is rated good to excellent, 78% fair, and only 1% poor.
★ The latest assessment, released after farmers completed seeding, points to growing concerns about U.S. pea production this season.
