News Capsule: Government Cotton Procurement Reaches 5 Million Bales
★ This procurement is 60% higher than last year.
★ Market prices have been well below the MSP, leading the CCI to procure large quantities.
★ Out of total arrivals of 11.8 million bales, 5 million bales have been purchased by the CCI.
★ Procurement includes 0.937 million bales from Telangana and 0.47 million bales from Maharashtra.
★ Purchases of 0.21 million bales have been made from Karnataka and 0.19 million bales from Gujarat. Procurement is also underway in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Odisha.
★ The start of government procurement has led to an improvement in mandi prices.
★ Cotton production has been affected this season due to a reduction in acreage and repeated rainfall.
★ IGrain India had earlier reported a likely rise in cotton prices before the arrival of the new crop, which now appears to be proving correct.
