News Capsule: International Market: Green Lentils Under Pressure, Red Steady | Pea Market Pauses
★ Green lentils lost more ground last week, while red lentils remained relatively firm. International lentil markets closed on a mixed note. Although global exports up to December were higher than last year following harvest completion, concerns are emerging about the pace of exports compared to available supplies.
★ Projected residual stocks may exceed initial estimates. Due to differences in supply between green and red lentils, concerns over higher carryover stocks are weighing more heavily on green lentils, while red lentils remain comparatively stable.

Pea Market in a Holding Pattern
★ The global field pea market showed little change last week. Exporters and processors remain uncertain about demand from China and India through the end of the 2024-25 marketing year.
★ Export asking prices for both spot and new crop shipment positions remained largely unchanged. Recent price gains have eased pressure on processors and exporters to cover short-term shipping commitments.
★ Spot bids in North America were steady. In contrast, new crop bids in Canada for farmer-delivered product to processing plants rose 6%, increasing from US$184 to US$195 per metric ton (MT).
★ Overall, the international pulse market remains cautious, with green lentils under pressure and the pea market showing signs of stability.
