News Capsule: Procurement of pulses
★ National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) have started direct procurement of pulses at MSP.
★ Tur, urad, masoor and chana are being purchased from pre-registered farmers at APMC mandis.
★ The Agriculture Ministry has urged states to waive mandi tax and other levies on pulse procurement.
★ NCCF has begun procurement of urad and tur in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka.
★ NAFED has started buying tur and will soon commence procurement of tur and masoor in Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
★ Around 2.8 million farmers are registered on NAFED’s e-Samriddhi and NCCF’s e-Samyukti portals.
★ According to I-Grain India, government procurement support could help support kharif prices of tur, urad and moong.
