News Capsule: Rabi sowing begins in Rajasthan
★ Sowing of rabi crops has begun in Rajasthan. Out of the total target of 120.15 lakh hectares, sowing has so far covered only 3% or 3.51 lakh hectares.
★ Rapeseed and mustard have been sown in 3.06 lakh hectares (8%), while taramira has been sown in 0.28 lakh hectares (1%).
★ Among pulses, gram sowing has covered 0.29 lakh hectares (1%) so far.
★ Sowing of major cereals like wheat (target 36 lakh hectares) and barley (target 3.8 lakh hectares) has not yet started.
★ This year, the acreage under gram, mustard, and wheat is expected to rise, while coriander and cumin sowing may decline.
★ According to the Meteorological Department, the season is likely to witness severe cold — a condition favorable for wheat and barley but not ideal for other crops.
