News Capsule: Tur (Pigeon Pea) – Prices Continue to Rise
MSP Kharif 2025: ₹8,000 per quintal
★ Domestic and imported tur markets witnessed a firm trend in prices from the end of December to early January. Most key varieties recorded gains on a daily, monthly, and annual basis.

Domestic Market Scenario
★ Solapur: Prices increased from ₹7,350 to ₹7,525, registering a rise of ₹175. Compared to August 2025, prices are higher by ₹925.
★ Latur Maruti: With a daily gain of ₹150, prices reached ₹7,350. Prices are up ₹750 compared to August.
★ Akola: Recorded the highest daily increase of ₹250, with prices at ₹7,400. The rise from December versus August stands at ₹700.
★ Mumbai Mozambique: Even in the relatively weaker segment, prices gained ₹100 to reach ₹5,700.
★ Mumbai Lemon: Prices stood at ₹6,850, up ₹725 compared to August.
★ Chennai Lemon: Prices strengthened by ₹175 on the day to reach ₹6,875.

Monthly and Quarterly Trends
★ The December 2025 average was ₹350–750 per quintal higher compared to November 2025.
★ Prices in December were also clearly stronger than in September and October 2025, indicating improved demand and limited supply.

Imported Tur (Myanmar)
★ Myanmar (C&F) prices increased from $780 to $785 per tonne.
★ Prices were up by $70 per tonne in December versus November and by $122 per tonne compared to August.
★ However, prices are still below the MSP of ₹8,000 per quintal.

Reasons for the Rise and Outlook
★ Lower production levels.
★ Reduced imports and support from government procurement.
★ Improvement in local demand.
★ Arrival of new crop has begun in almost all states.
★ Fresh imports of tur from Myanmar are expected to begin from February.
★ During winter, higher availability of vegetables usually keeps pulse demand subdued.
★ With the easing of cold weather, demand is expected to improve, which could provide further support to prices going forward.
