North Faces Cold Wave, South Awaits Rain

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted severe cold and dense to very dense fog in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Delhi for the next few days.
In addition, snowfall is expected to continue in the higher reaches of the mountainous states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh, which will intensify the cold in the plains.
Furthermore, a cold wave is likely to prevail in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall or thunderstorms in the southern states of the country, especially Tamil Nadu and Kerala,
due to the formation of a deep low-pressure area over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean. This rainfall is expected on January 9-10.
In Delhi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius on January 8, while a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog and severe cold for January 9 (today).
The maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to be 17 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature 6 degrees Celsius on January 9.
Meanwhile, severe cold and a cold wave continue to grip Uttar Pradesh, with dense fog prevailing in many parts of the state during the morning and evening. People in Bihar are also suffering due to the rapidly increasing cold.
