Paddy Sowing Surpasses Last Year: Agriculture Department
★ According to data released by the Agriculture Department, paddy sowing in the country reached around 70 lakh hectares as of July 4, compared to 65 lakh hectares during the same period last year.
★ The figures have surprised many, as paddy and rice prices remained low throughout the season, and a decline in acreage was expected.
★ The primary reasons for the increase are the early arrival of the monsoon and the lack of alternative crop options.
★ Prices of all major crops in the country are currently below MSP, leaving farmers with limited choices.
