The production of palm oil in Indonesia is projected to reach 470 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season, with a total availability of 538.95 lakh tonnes, including a stock of 68.95 lakh tonnes from the previous season.

This marks a significant increase in both domestic use and export. The area under oil palm plantations is estimated to cover 145 lakh hectares in the 2024-25 season, although this is slightly less than the 146 lakh hectares in the previous season due to the removal of old palm trees.

Of the total palm oil availability of 538.95 lakh tonnes, 260 lakh tonnes will be exported, while 221.25 lakh tonnes will be used domestically.

The domestic consumption consists of 147 lakh tonnes for industrial use, 71 lakh tonnes for food purposes, and 3.25 lakh tonnes for feed waste.

This leaves an outstanding surplus of 57.70 lakh tonnes at the end of the marketing season. Indonesia remains the world's largest producer and exporter of palm oil, utilizing it extensively for both human food and biodiesel production.
