Saskatoon. More than 90 percent of pea harvesting has been completed in both the top producing provinces of Western Canada- Saskatchewan and Alberta and if the weather remains clear, the entire harvesting is expected to be completed by the end of the current month.
Although this time the production of peas in the country has been better than last year and its supply and availability has also increased, but the total stock of peas will not be so huge that it becomes a burden for the market.
Due to strong arrival of new goods and normal business, the price of yellow peas has remained stable around $ 9.50 per bushel.
At present, the pace of its purchase and sale is seen to be somewhat slow. Some difference is being seen in its price in different parts of Saskatchewan province.
Canadian pea exporters have their eyes focused on huge markets like India and China. The response of both these countries is not very encouraging.
There is a good stock of previously imported peas in India, while there is tension in Canada's trade relationship with China.
China has initiated anti-dumping investigation against Canadian canola. In any case, China is now preferring to import peas from Russia instead of Canada.
Duty-free import of peas has been allowed in India till 31 October 2024 and there is uncertainty about extending its deadline.
The price of green peas in Canada is firmly at $ 14 per bushel, which is being supported by the rumor that the import duty on green peas in India may be reduced. However, the Indian government has not given any clear indication of this yet.
In recent times, the interest of traders / exporters in buying Maple peas has increased somewhat, due to which its price has improved to between $ 17 and $ 19 per bushel.
