New Delhi. As a part of the Mega Oil Palm Plantation Campaign launched under the National Mission on Edible Oil - Oil Palm, more than 17 lakh young palm plants (sampling) were planted in an area of more than 12 thousand hectares in 15 states of the country,
which is expected to benefit more than 10 thousand farmers. This campaign was started on 15 July 2024 and it achieved great success in its objective.
This campaign will continue till 15 September. The states showing more enthusiasm towards this campaign include Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
This campaign is being organized by the state governments in collaboration with major oil palm processing companies, including leading companies like Patanjali, Godrej and 3F Oil Palm Ltd.
Under this, many awareness workshops were organized and campaigns and promotion programs were run. With the help of these activities, awareness was created among the farmers about successful palm cultivation.
Industry critics say that India remains the largest importer of edible oils including palm oil in the world. A very large amount of edible oil is being imported in the country, on which a lot of valuable foreign currency is being spent.
If proper development and expansion of palm plantations is done, then in the next few years, good success can be achieved in reducing dependence on import of edible oils.
