New Delhi. The Government of India is making necessary preparations to make the joint meeting of the Trade Council with Kenya and Tanzania, the two top trading partners of the African continent, a success.
This meeting is scheduled to be held next month i.e. in September 2024. It is noteworthy that India has set a target to double the trade with African countries to 200 billion by the year 2030.
According to informed sources, the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry is in discussions with various industry councils and other ministries for the meeting of the Joint Trade Council with Kenya and Tanzania next month,
in which special attention is being paid to creating other opportunities by removing the existing obstacles.
There is also a plan to consult with various ministries for this. Africa is an important market for India where there is a huge scope for export promotion.
Most of the non-basmati rice from India is exported to African countries, while pulses like gram and tur are imported from there.
The government has sought information from industry bodies and exporters associations on trade and tariff related barriers and also asked them to report non-tariff barriers so that these issues can be taken up in the council meeting.
Kenya and Tanzania - Both countries are expected to grow exports of various commodities in the future while there is also a huge potential for trade and investment.
However, Indian exporters face certain problems and challenges in these two African countries. There are often delays at the administrative and bureaucratic level and strict laws and standards have been imposed to control the import of many commodities.
