A significant case of adulterated edible oil was uncovered in Dahod, Gujarat, revealing a thriving illegal business in fake edible oils. The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Dahod Police raided a suspected unit in an industrial area, where a large quantity of adulterated palm oil was seized.
The police acted on a tip-off and found a stock of suspicious oil worth Rs 15.45 lakh, primarily consisting of palm oil stored in 104 tins, weighing a total of 1505 kg. The tins lacked labels, further raising suspicion about the authenticity of the product.
In addition to the 104 tins, the authorities recovered 456 pouches, 24 bottles, and 16 jerry cans filled with oil. Inside the plant, they discovered a 25,000-liter tank containing about 10,000 liters of suspicious palm oil. The facility had stickers from 17 different brands, adding to the complexity of the case.
The police have informed the Food Safety Department and other relevant authorities. The confiscated oil will undergo laboratory testing to confirm its composition and safety.
The entire operation highlights the risks posed by such fraudulent practices, which can harm consumers while being motivated by the relatively lower prices of adulterated oils.
