Rainfall in February 80% Below Normal
★ According to a private news agency, rainfall in India during February was the lowest since 1960, recording 81% below the normal level.
★ Only 4.2 mm of rainfall was recorded in February, compared to the normal average of 22.7 mm.
★ Rainfall remained close to normal only in Kerala and Karnataka, while it was 100% deficient in Bihar, Gujarat, and the Konkan–Goa region.
★ The lack of rainfall may affect crops in paddy-growing regions, but other crops such as wheat, gram (chana), lentil (masoor), barley, and mustard are unlikely to be impacted, as soil moisture levels were already adequate.
