Raisin prices will increase even more

Raisin prices are expected to continue rising in the near future. According to reports, the price of raisins in Maharashtra's Sangli and Tasgaon Mandi is predicted to increase to Rs. 225-250 per kilogram, up from the current range of Rs. 210-230 per kg. This price hike is expected before the arrival of the new crop, which will start around February-March.
The rise in prices can be attributed to a reduced supply this season. The country has seen a significant decrease in raisin production, with current estimates showing a production of 16,000-17,000 carts (each cart weighing 10 tonnes), compared to 24,000-25,000 carts last year.
Furthermore, the stock in the markets has been low, and the remaining stock is concentrated in fewer hands, contributing to the scarcity.
Currently, the raisin stock in major producing areas like Maharashtra stands at 3,500-4,000 carts, but this is expected to decrease to 2,000-2,500 carts by the time the new crop arrives.
The demand for raisins remains strong, which is driving up prices. In October, prices were around Rs. 180-200 per kg, but they have since risen to Rs. 210-230.
However, the grape crop looks promising, and if weather conditions remain favorable, the new season's production may be better than last year.
