No possibility of recession in current prices
New Delhi. For some time now, due to limited purchases by exporters, the prices of fennel are being quoted with a recession. But at present, due to the prices coming down to the minimum level, there is no possibility of recession now.
It is noteworthy that during the current season, however, a decline has been registered in fennel production. But due to the record production last year, the outstanding stock remained satisfactory. Due to which there was no rise in prices. Fennel is mainly produced in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Production
Last year, due to farmers not getting a fair price for their produce, there was a decline in the sowing area of fennel, apart from this, due to the increase in temperature at the time of harvesting, the productivity per hectare was also affected. Due to which the production of fennel in the country during this current season is estimated to be 18/20 lakh bags. Whereas last year the production was considered to be 38/40 lakh bags (each bag 55 kg). In the year 2023, the production was 20/22 lakh bags.
Incoming reduced
Due to about 60/70 percent of the total production coming to the markets, the daily arrival has started decreasing. At present, the arrival in Unjha, the main market of Gujarat, has come down to 4/5 thousand bags, whereas during the month of April, the arrival was 25/30 thousand bags. In Nagaur and Medta Mandi of Rajasthan, the arrival has also come down to 1500/2000 bags.
Price
At present, the price of average quality fennel is being quoted at Rs 75/110 in the markets of the producing centers, while the price of light goods is being quoted at Rs 65/90. Sources say that the export demand has been low for some time. But now the situation is gradually improving, due to which there is a possibility of increase in export demand in the coming days, which will have a bullish effect on the prices.
Export price
Experts say that due to increasing tension on the borders after the Pahalgam attack, the export trade of fennel has been badly affected. Apart from this, local trade has also decreased. Due to limited buying by exporters, the export price of fennel has currently come down to Rs 80/81 per kg, which was running at Rs 113/114 per kg during the month of April.
Export
Due to the sluggish prices of fennel in the last season, a spectacular 94 percent increase was registered in the export of fennel during the year 2024-25. Whereas due to low export prices, the income increased by only 14 percent. According to the data released by the Spices Board, during the year 2024-25 (April-March), the export of fennel was 76586 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs 76544 lakh. Whereas during the year 2023-24 (April-March), 39564 tonnes were exported and the income received from export was Rs 66960 lakh. There was a record export of fennel during the year 2024-25. Earlier, a record export of 40139 tonnes was made in the year 2020-21.
