Rice Exports from India to Iran Decline Sharply
★ In 2018-19, Iran accounted for 34% of India's total rice exports, but by 2024-25, its share dropped significantly to just 14%.
★ In 2024-25, India exported 855,132.9 tonnes of rice to Iran, which is 14% of the total 6.06 million tonnes exported. Back in 2018-19, exports to Iran stood at 1.48 million tonnes, forming 34% of the total volume.
★ The most significant drop occurred after 2019-20, when Iran’s share fell from 30% to just 16% in 2020-21.
★ The decline is largely attributed to international sanctions on Iran, payment settlement issues, and the ongoing war, all of which have impacted trade.
★ If the war continues, it could exert further pressure on global rice prices.
