Rupee Strengthens by 29 Paise in Early Trade

Mumbai. Bolstered by positive sentiment in the domestic market and support from the Reserve Bank of India, the Indian rupee strengthened by 29 paise against the US dollar during early trading.

This brought the value of one US dollar down to 94.62 rupees. A stronger rupee reduces the cost of importing foreign goods, while increasing the earnings from the export of Indian products. However, a stronger rupee can also diminish the interest of foreign importers in purchasing Indian goods.

Currency market analysts note that the launch of an IPO by a major company led to an increased inflow of dollars into the country, which strengthened the rupee.

Nevertheless, the improvement in the rupee's exchange rate remained limited due to rising crude oil prices and the overall strength of the US dollar. In the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 94.78 and subsequently strengthened to reach 94.62.
