Sale of Bharat-branded products likely to be discontinued
★ With food prices stabilizing, the government is likely to discontinue the sale of products under the 'Bharat' brand. In April 2025, food inflation fell to 1.78%, compared to 8.7% in the same month last year.
★ India recorded bumper production of rice, wheat, and maize in the 2024–25 kharif season. In addition, the output of major pulses such as tur, chana, and masoor also increased compared to the previous season.
★ The 'Bharat' brand was launched in 2023 to provide essential food items like wheat, rice, and pulses at subsidized rates. These products were sold through government agencies such as NAFED, NCCF, and Kendriya Bhandar.
★ Under the Bharat brand, wheat flour (atta), rice, chana, and various pulses were made available to consumers.
