New Delhi. Sowing of Kharif crops has been completed in most parts of the country and all the crops are now in various stages of progress. September is going to prove decisive for these crops.
During the current month also, the activity of the southwest monsoon remains in many states, due to which heavy rains are continuing there.
Due to torrential rains, severe floods and waterlogging in the fields in many areas, Kharif crops have already suffered a lot of damage, while further damage is expected.
No doubt, there has been a good increase in the sowing area of Kharif crops during the current year as compared to last year, but for excellent production, it is necessary for the weather and monsoon rain to be favorable.
The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of more than normal average rainfall in September as well, like July and August. If this happens, the yield rate of Kharif crops may be adversely affected.
The recent heavy rains have caused severe floods in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Gujarat and some other states, due to which crops have been damaged.
The damage is being assessed. But it is certain that there will be a fall in production. Apart from this, crops have been damaged due to severe floods in many parts of states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
Experts say that despite the increase in sowing area, it is not certain that the production of Kharif crops will improve because the havoc of rain and floods is still continuing and the threat to crops remains.
