New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several states in northern and western India, warning of severe heat and rising temperatures over the next three to four days. Affected states include Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.

yellow weather alert has been issued for Punjab from April 7 to 10, with temperatures already soaring. On April 6, Punjab recorded a maximum of 39.7°C, significantly above the normal 31°C. Minimum temperatures were also 1.6 to 4.4 degrees higher than average.

According to the IMD, a western disturbance could become active over western Himachal from April 5, potentially bringing rain or thundershowers to Punjab on April 10–11. Experts warn that rain accompanied by strong winds may affect the quality of wheat crops.

Additionally, light to moderate rain with strong winds is expected across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand between April 7 and 11. If snowfall or hailstorms occur, Rabi crops in the plains could suffer damage.

The IMD forecasts a further 2–4°C rise in Punjab’s maximum temperature over the next three days, followed by a slight drop of 2–3°C.
