New Delhi, April 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the continuation of a severe heatwave across several states including Bihar, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, with temperatures already reaching extreme levels in many areas.
According to IMD, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in eastern Madhya Pradesh from April 24 to 27, and in western Madhya Pradesh from April 24 to 29.
The states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha may experience intense heat between April 24 and 26. Similarly, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are under heatwave alerts from April 24 to 29, while Chhattisgarh, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada are expected to feel the impact between April 24 and 25.
Bihar, Odisha, and the Gangetic region of West Bengal are also likely to witness unusually hot nights during April 24–25.
In Southern India, the heat is expected to intensify in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Gujarat, although some areas may receive sporadic rainfall.
Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions have been predicted for Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahi, Konkan & Goa, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.
In Delhi NCR, temperatures are expected to hover between 41°C and 43°C. Authorities have urged residents, especially those in vulnerable regions, to take extra precautions.
The high temperatures and ongoing dry spell are raising concerns for zaid crops, which are currently being sown. Additionally, early cotton sowing in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan could be negatively affected due to the harsh weather conditions.
