Sharp surge in moong sowing: Rajasthan and Karnataka lead, Maharashtra lags behind
★ Kharif Season 2025 witnesses impressive progress in moong cultivation.
★ As of July 11, 2025, India has recorded moong sowing over 23.16 lakh hectares, a significant rise of 10.97 lakh hectares compared to 12.19 lakh hectares during the same period last year.

State-wise progress (as per respective State Agriculture Departments):
Rajasthan (14.07.2025):
★ The state has seen a remarkable increase in sowing, reaching 19.28 lakh hectares, compared to 11.18 lakh hectares last year — a surge of 8.10 lakh hectares.
Karnataka (11.07.2025):
★ Moong has been sown in 4.08 lakh hectares so far, up slightly from 3.99 lakh hectares last year — an increase of 0.09 lakh hectares.
Maharashtra (14.07.2025):
★ Sowing stands at 1.91 lakh hectares, down from 2.12 lakh hectares last year — a decline of 0.21 lakh hectares.
Telangana (16.07.2025):
★ Sowing has dropped slightly to 0.40 lakh hectares, compared to 0.44 lakh hectares last year — a decrease of 0.04 lakh hectares.
Gujarat (14.07.2025):
★ This year, 0.25 lakh hectares have been sown, up from 0.16 lakh hectares in the previous year — an increase of 0.09 lakh hectares.
★ In these 5 major states, total moong sowing has reached 25.92 lakh hectares, up by 8.03 lakh hectares from last year.
★ Rajasthan and Karnataka have taken the lead in moong cultivation this season, while Maharashtra and Telangana have seen minor declines.
★ If favorable weather continues, India could witness a substantial rise in moong production this year.
