Slight increase in sowing of coarse grains
There has been a slight increase in the sowing of coarse grains this year, with some crops showing growth while others have seen a decline:
Jowar: Sowing increased by 1 lakh hectares, reaching a total of 19.38 lakh hectares.
Maize: Sowing also saw a minor increase of 2 thousand hectares, totaling 10.07 lakh hectares.
Barley: However, barley sowing decreased by 50 thousand hectares, down to 5.65 lakh hectares compared to last year.
In Rajasthan, it appears that farmers are prioritizing gram sowing over barley, which could explain the reduction in barley area.
The actual sowing situation may still evolve, as updated data is expected to be available in about 15 days, providing a clearer picture.
